Why we swim

This isn’t just a weekend of swimming, it’s freedom for children with disabilities.

For a lot of disabled children, the pool is the only place they feel free. The water takes their weight and is a true leveller.

In the UK many disabled children never get the chance to learn, because it can be hard to find lessons and even harder to pay for them.

Level Water solves this. We give disabled children aged 4–11 the opportunity to access swimming lessons with trained teachers, in pools, near their homes.

In 2026, every hour swum = 1 month of lessons for a disabled child. Your swimming funds their swimming.

Where your money goes

“Her confidence in the water has rocketed.”

Daisy has Down’s syndrome. Learning, and coordinating movement and breathing needing for swimming are all really hard for her. But thanks to her 1:1 lessons she has made steady progress. She would never cope in a mainstream lesson, and without the funding support, 1:1 would be tricky. Her confidence in the water has rocketed and she loves doing sinkies and handstands. Thanks to this lesson regime she is able to fully enjoy family swims and take part independently at her friends’ swimming parties – these contribute to both her physical health and connectedness. Her progress also reassures us that in the worst case scenario she will be able to access some basic life saving skills. Thank you Level Water.

What is it?

A 24-hour swim relay, wrapped in a festival.

You and your mates keep a baton moving round a lake for a full day and night. Someone in your team is always in the water. Everyone else is by the fire or cheering at the water's edge.

  1. 1

    Be the captain

One person registers first and creates the team. Grab your Captain Code and it costs you just £5.

  2. 2

    Gather your crew

Teams can have anywhere from 2 to 8 swimmers: friends, workmates or swim buddies. You don't need to be fast. You just need to be up for it.

  3. 3

    Swim, rest, repeat

Take turns in the water for 24 hours. You choose who swims when, so the night shift goes to whoever wants it most.

  4. 4

    Raise money together

Your team fundraises for Level Water. We send captains a kit with ready-made messages to make it easy.

Example: what a team of 6 can do

6swimmers in your team

What Shepperton swimmers say

Thank you! I was really nervous as I’ve never done something like this before and every single member of staff, every swimmer, water safety team, medics, just made you feel like you could do this and it was for such a great cause.

I was apprehensive about the amount of organising this might take, especially with the fundraising required. However I was so WRONG to be nervous! The Level Water team supported me (and the team) every step of the way and we smashed our fundraising targets and had an amazing weekend. We will be back!

Good questions

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

No. This is about having fun as a team, not racing. Swim at your own pace. If you're comfortable swimming in open water, you'll be fine.

Do I have to swim at night?

Not if you don't want to. Your team shares the 24 hours and you decide the order. Lots of people say the night swim is their favourite bit, though.

I don't have a team yet. Can I still sign up?

Yes. Get your Captain Code now to lock in the £5 price, then invite people when you're ready. We'll send you ready-made messages to make asking easy.

How much do tickets cost?

Super Early Bird tickets are £20 each until 31 January 2027. With the Captain Code, the captain pays just £5. After 31 January, prices go up.

Do we have to fundraise?

Yes, and it's the whole point! Every pound goes to Level Water to fund swimming lessons for disabled children. Here's what we ask:

  • Aim to raise at least £150 per swimmer. Do your best to beat it, but we won't be cross if someone only manages £100!
  • It doesn't have to be just asking for donations. Run a pub quiz, comedy night, games night or bake sale, and give something back to your friends too.
  • We'll help all the way. Your captain kit is full of ideas, and 2–3 activities like this over the year will hit your target.

Can I camp?

Absolutely, and we'd encourage it! Whether you're pitching a tent or pulling up in a campervan, camping in our event village is the best way to soak up the festival atmosphere. It's where most of your weekend happens: cooking with your team, sharing stories and laughs, and getting to know the other teams and swimmers around you.

Your team. One lake. 24 hours.

Grab your £5 Captain Code before 31 January, and let's get more kids swimming.
